I knew the novel was already going to be great just by reading the first page. Hoot was filled with exciting adventures, surprising plot twists, and friendships. Hoot inspires readers to stand up for what is right, and protect nature. Can Mullet Fingers save the owls before their habitat is destroyed? With some help of course. When Roy finally discovers him (Mullet Fingers), Roy learns that Mullet Fingers is trying to stop a corporation from building on top of owl territory. Forgetting about Beatrice, Roy continued his search for the "running boy". Roy responds with an I don't know answer. She started asking Roy questions about why he was so interested in the boy. During lunch hour, Roy is stopped abruptly by a girl named Beatrice. With no luck, Roy decided he would later search the community with hope he would find the boy. Surprised by what Roy saw, he started to look and ask around his school if anyone had seen the "running boy". Roy Eberhardt is the new kid at school, and when getting his face shoved against a school bus window, he observes a boy running past the bus stop and instead down a back road without shoes on. Carl Hiaasen (author of Hoot) describes his feelings about how construction destroys animal habitats, and how we have to do our part and protect their habitats.
